a naturalist and cultural study of the Harps in Polynesia

Objectives: to study the relationship between the nature of Harpa mollusks and the island culture of French Polynesia

Participants: Sasha 8, elementary student // Audrey 35, writer and teacher // Sebastien 37, doctor in fine arts and independent malacologist

Purposes:

  • The dissemination of data collected in the field through various types of publications (specialized journals, popular magazines, website by Sébastien)

  • The awareness of young audiences to the ecology of reef environments through children’s literature (ecological tale by Audrey)

  • The making of a travel log on social networks and the testimony of a scientific research adventure through the eyes of a child (report by Sasha)

Dates: project to be completed in 2019, field research from June 24 to July 27

Places: Tahiti, Moorea, Tikehau, Rangiroa, Fakarava for the 2019 mission, with addings of the observations made in 1996 (Tahiti, Moorea), in 2005 (Tahiti, Moorea, Raiatea, Tahaa, Huahine, Tikehau, Rurutu, Tubuai) and in 2009 (Tahiti, Moorea, Raiatea, Bora Bora, Maupiti, Manihi, Fakarava)

Funding: our parents generously support this project up to 30% of the total expenses, 19% come from promotional offers on transports, 23% from the sale of collectibles or artworks, the remaining 28% are insured by our personal savings
